Dollies, Russian dolls, matryoshka... Whatever you call them, we love them! :) FJJ had a gorgeous visit this afternoon from her lovely friend with her lovely man and their beautiful daughter who is almost 3. She
was obsessed with all the sparkly, kitty, jewellery and other bits and bobs here and also fell in love with most things I have with dollies on them! It really brought home to me how many wee things I have sitting out that I love! Anyway, it put these necklaces in my mind so I thought I'd share in a blogpost. I made them last year but have re-photographed them to fresh them on the site.

There are some great apps for playing with, sorry, editing photos! I have been having fun with a few recently and love this one that allows you to pick out colours in your photos. It's called 'Color effects' and is available in the AppStore. I'm sure there are similar apps for other interfaces but I liked the ease of use with this one. It turns your chosen image into black and White then you can pick out the bits you want the original colour restored to or add other colours. These ones all have the original colours on the pieces and with the necklace I have also highlighted the pink blossom image in the hatbox background I've been using recently.

Brand new - handmade resin bangles! Exclusive first look...

Once upon a time, there was a lady called Miss FunkyJunk. She loved making jewellery for all the funky people in the land and always experimented with new techniques to make each piece even more unique. And so late July 2010 saw said funky lady meet resin (thanks to help and support from @Pennydog www.pennydog.com ) and so an adventure began...

I got my resin from Penny and, as I've mentioned in previous posts, set about with the weirdest shopping list ever... Disposable cups, lollipop sticks, vaseline, disposable gloves, colourants, moulds, cocktail sticks and a huge amount of imagination! Oh, and to top it all off, clingfilm!

These are my first two bangles ever. My mould arrived from Penny (I'm not being paid to promote her, honestly, just giving the story and thanks where due!) and I set about doing layers of resin, allowing each one to almost set before adding the next.

The clear and silver glitter bangle on top in the picture above has been sanded and glossed and is finished. It's going to be a prototype. The pink, glitter and clear one underneath shows that the bangle has a tiny dip in the edge of it. This is the way it sits in the mould and I've found it difficult to completely get rid of it but did sand it through all the grades 800, 1000, 1400, 1600 and 2000 twice so it's as smooth as it can be. I then glossed it with, weirdly again for my shopping list, car laqcuer spray - it's what the experts use! Caution - use in a well-ventilated area away from dust. Sounds obvious but hey!

Fully glossed and drying. I'll leave it for about 4 hours before touching. It's ready after about 1, to be honest, but I prefer to wait and avoid any risk of fingerprintage!

I've balanced it on two cocktail sticks so that the minimum amount of bangle is touching the protective plastic underneath. I'll wait until it's dry then turn it and spray the other side. It looked smooth and opaque without the gloss but I find it protects it and brings back the shine that the necessary sanding takes away...


The latest bangle drying. There's a layer of red underneath, this is ocean blue and I'm going to add clear tomorrow - nautical chic! :D

Almost finished pieces... sneaky peek!!

Hello FunkyJunk fans! Just a quick post to share this picture of some almost-finished pieces. As you might have seen, I'm currently experimenting with making my own resin pieces. These have been cured, polished with various grit sandpaper (800 - 2000 waterproof) and glossed. I think the wee square ones will become rings and the largert pieces, pendants. I've still to score the rings and pieces and drill the larger bits but will post again once I have something finished! :D

Resin Heaven!

Resin!! As anyone who knows FunkyJunk Jewellery knows, I love nothing more than learning new techniques. I've had amazing journeys-in-jewellery, from the start where I added charms and beads together, to making my own charms and pieces from polymer clay and latterly shrink plastic... and now... comes RESIN!

It would be rude not to mention straight off the wonderful @Pennydog of www.pennydog.co.uk Kerry (not Penny - Penny is her dog!!) has been a great help to me (and so many other people) and not only was my supplier but also gave me a few tips when I got the pre-new-technique wobbles! There's a great crafting community online and it really puts paid to the rumours that some crafters can be precious and not want to share. I've found completely the opposite and people are really open. Anyway, this is turning into an awards acceptance speech so I'll move on and label the photos below to give you an idea of how it went.

My colourant, pva glue, vaseline, resi-mate resin mat and Kerry's business card, for a wee plug for her and because it is pretty!

I've added the clear resin and embedded some material, a tibetan silver charm and some tiny coloured roses. I mixed the rest of the resin with pink colourant to make the two stars. I noticed resin mixed with the ceramic paint (which was what the art shop recommended) did take longer to dry but were fine if I just left them.

Photos! I'd been wanting to make some personal charms with old black and white family photos. I can't say too much as they're for gifts but I thought this image showed how I had dropped resin on the top and spread it out to the edges. It was ResinObsession's Super Clear resin and doesn't magnify the images. I didn't want or expect it to but just thought I'd mention!

Shrink Plastic Fantastic!

Wow, is this really my first blog of 2010? Oh dear - I didn't mean to leave it that long at all! Ah well, in with a bang with more adventures in shrink plastic...

I took photos of the process as I was going along so hopefully you can see the stages I went through (photograhic rather than emotional!)!!

The first shows my drawings - hand-drawn onto a standard sheet of white 'Shrinkles' brand plastic. As you can see, I do them in pencil first. Drawing isn't one of my best skills but I have been putting a lot of work into it and practising, so it can only get better! :)

The second image shows the pieces cut out and ready to go into the oven. I use a fan-assisted oven at about 125 degrees and pop them in for a few minutes.

The photo taken sneakily in the oven shows how they shrink. They only need a few minutes and once they are a little flatter than this (but they still don't have to be completely flat) then you take them out carefully. You have ten seconds to work with the plastic before it dries but it's okay if you make a mistake or don't move quickly enough as you can pop it back into the oven for a minute or two so it softens up again.

I wanted all these ones flat so took them out one at a time and put a clean (and sturdy) glass coaster firmly on the top and pressed it down for about ten seconds. You may find you sacrifice about one from each batch so don't get too attached to your designs in the first few tries! The more eagle-eyed readers among you might notice there is no heart in the bottom picture - it was just a bit small and it split. :(

I used a mix of coloured pencil and sakura pens on this lot. The sakura pens are quite expensive (about £9 for 5) and they do run out quite quickly so I've now decided to use the mainly for outlines and small detail. The quality of them is just stunning and they leave a 3d effect - perfect for the tattoo styles I so love! The blue charm with the heart plants was just too wet as I used sakura gelly rolls all over it. It never really dried properly - even after its journey into the land of the oven! The result was it never straightened and cracked in the middle. C'est la vie!

Once everything was cooled down - which doesn't take long - I glossed the pieces and drilled holes where appropriate. The hummingbird can be seen here where I have made it into a necklace and listed it on the website.

So there you go - a sort of whistlestop tour of my new shrinkles adventures. Even since taking these photos I've created loads of new pieces so I pinkie-swear to blog about them soon!

Shrinkle-tastic!

Hey peeps! Happy Hogmanay to you all. I thought I'd use my last blog of 2009 to tell you about some new pieces I've been making.

I love making jewellery, duh, and have always wanted to be more involved in the process of creating the pieces that I use. Don't get me wrong, I think there is definitely a skill in using already crafted materials and putting them together in different combinations. Let's face it, loads and loads of people make jewellery but it's not very often you see people producing exactly the same thing so it really does take a creative eye and a different approach. It's all about your take on it and, to some extent, your individual style. That's what got me obsessed with polymer clay a few years ago but that's for another post...

I've wanted to produce my own acrylic charms for a while but simply haven't the room at the moment to set up some James Bond baddie style 'frickin' laser' system. I was on a craft site a few months ago and saw the word... shrinkles! For some reason it makes me giggle a bit like a twelve year old! I can't honestly say why but anyway, a while ago I decided to order some and have a go myself. I have never really been able to draw but tried it out anyway. My inspiration came from the things FunkyJunk is all about: tea, cake, pirates, nautical kitsch, flowers, roller derby, Japan and bright colours! Enough of me rattling on - show us, I hear you cry! Hello FJJ fans - it's been too long since my last blogpost, for which I humbly (humbugly?!) apologise!!

It's been such a busy season for FJJ with an absolute TON of orders going out since about the middle of October - FAB!! After getting everything out to my lovely customers, I've been relaxing and enjoying a Christmas break but am now twitching to get back to FJJ biz!

Stocking-filler idea: Snowflake necklace!

Just a quick post to show you some of the products that went on the site today - ooh, you're in the know! Wink , wink!

First up: Snowflake necklaces. Hallowe'en v Pink Santa!

Hi FJJ fans!

It's been a busy old time here at FJJ but I wanted to take ten minutes to breathe and do a blog! Well, now that Hallowe'en's out of the way, everyone's gone Christmas mad! I have it on good authority that the first Christmas tree of the year has already been spotted! And now I must admit that I too have started to decorate - albeit only my Pink Santa here! My lovely folks were over recently and Mum just HAD to bring me Mr Santa as she'd never seen a pink one! I have to say, neither have I! He's too cute to go in the drawer for a month so I've kept him up on the mantlepiece!

Mum also brough me some spoooooky Hallowe'en candles and I've been enjoying them the last few nights There are three little spookers left now...!

I've been working hard on a Christmas Gift Guide for the site too, with loads of pieces made especially for this time of year. Jaffa, Dolly Bird and Buttons?

Hi FJJ fans!

Hope the weekend is treating you all well. I've been taking loads and loads of photos recently as I always try to think of things to blog about. If it crosses my mind something might be interesting then I snap away. What it means, however, is I have lots of random photos to share!

Here is a collage I made of my new nail polishes my lovely friend gave me for my birthday recently. They're from Butter, London via a gorgeous local boutique DOLLYLEO APOTHECARY http://www.dollyleo.co.uk/ and I think I'm in love with them!

She knew I had a gorgeous Nails Inc coral colour polish so remembered that theme and went either way, as she put it herself! The result is two gorgeous polishes - one in Jaffa and one in Dollybird! Jaffa is (obviously) the orange one but it looks almost translucent on as you can see from the photo below. Dolly bird is much more daring and dries in a matt style. My friend truly captured the torment of my soul - cool classic versus WAH bright!

One of my other friends completely spoiled me for my birthday! She got me lots of beautiful goodies (including Singstar Motown. Oh. My. WORD!!) and even hand-picked these beautiful buttons for me as she knows my obsession! I'm not struggling over whether to make something for myself or for the site, but I think I already know the answer to that!! Isn't the wrapping gorgeous?

Anyway, this is me promising to blog more often. My heart's in the right place since I take all the photos but I will be better in future. I will maybe even write lines on my new chalkboard from Notorious Kitsch (part of my prize)!!

Hi FJJ fans!!

Just wanted to quickly tell you about a fab new blog called Bling and Buy! It's run by the fabulous Emma, who has become somewhat of a jewellery review expert. She has great taste in all things accessory-related and I say that not only because Emma has already featured one of our rings, Tattoo Love Ring! I can't wait to see what's coming up next!

As a quick follow up, I thought you'd be interested to know that the Tattoo Love Ring has now gone to a very good home. A friend of mine recently got engaged and whilst her ring is being made (by a fab Edinburgh designer who works with precious stones and metals in a quirky style) she wanted a 'temporary' one to show to everyone who was asking 'where's the ring, where's the ring?!' I was proud that my friend chose a ring I made to hold her off until she gets her real one. I appreciate the irony too but she thinks it's cute as anything and can't wait to show it off! So there you go - jewellery-designer to the wedding market now too! Haha!

Notorious Kitsch!!

My name's Little Miss FunkyJunk and it's been too long since my last blog. Phew, confession out of the way!! I've been a busy bee and haven't had time to sit down and update this, so do accept my apologies. :) In the style of Gaz from Two Pints... 'Sowwy!!'

One thing I have been meaning to blog about is the WONDERFUL Notorious Kitsch who I was lucky enough to win a £50 voucher from recently. I know everyone says this but I genuinely hardly ever win anything, let alone something with Kitsch in the title! Any friends I have told bout my win have agreed this is the perfect prize for me!! Notorious have amazing goodies for home, office and gifts and the amazing Fiona, who owns and runs the site, has great taste in picking her stock!

Cue me spending a good couple of hours on the website choosing what I could get for my HUGE prize voucher... I was certain I wanted one of their shower curtains but which one? There were pirate ones which I really liked but I thought the black of them might make our small bathroom look smaller (one reason to move to a house with a bigger bathroom!!). I decided in the end to go for: HULA GIRL!! Not only is she fab but she matches the bathroom really well since I have minty/turquoisey stampings on the wall anyway. The top picture shows her back to front as it's an arty attempt through the mirrorred tile opposite it. The one underneath shows it in the normal way round...

I also chose a few other bits and bobs and two of them were this fabby retro-looking purse and excellent notepad. There's something amazing about the feel and smell of a new notepad and it gives me a great feeling of responsibility to use it well!! So far, it has a list of things I had to do last Thursday but it's in my neatest writing - honestly!! :)

I am STOCKED, therefore I ROCK!!

I'm ecstatic - and that's putting it lightly! FunkyJunk Jewellery is now officially available at 'I am.....' Boutique at 161 Main Street, Prestwick, Ayrshire! The fabulous Aimee (owner of the boutique and Twitterer extraordinaire!) contacted me to see if she could be an FJJ stockist. It was my first venture into wholesale but something I had been researching and looking into for a while...

We decided I would design a 50-piece range for Aimee's shop. I set about designing and making the products and emailed Aimee as I was going along to share photos and check the products were what she had in mind. As you know, all FJJ products are one-offs so it was lovely to make a whole range and the main theme in this one was buttons and acrylic pieces. I've popped a few photos below but don't want to spoil your surprise in case you are in Prestwick and fancy a look!!

The wonderful Wonderland Boutique is also newly stocked at 'I am.....' and you can see her beautiful work by clicking on the link. As a proud owner of one of their wee zip coin purses, I am a huge fan of Wonderland!! Congratulations to you too, my love!

Aimee also has a facebook page so all you ahve to do is type in I am Boutique into the search in facebook and hey presto, up she pops! I would also recommend Aimee's daily style blog which is just a great read - and I would know, it's on my RSS feed!!

I LOVE New York!

After returning last month from a holiday in the States (which was AMAZING, since you ask!), I have been trying to recapture that holiday glory! Although I never bought any jewellery goodies when I was away, I spent a lot of time taking all the sights in so I could come back refreshed and inspired for you, my lovelies!

I've started making rings for the site and bought this groovy new pink hand to display them on. I think it's pink enough but doesn't overshadow the jewellery: would you agree? White may have just disappeared into the background, like a Private Eye on a mission. Sorry - been reading Paul Auster's amazing 'New York Trilogy' and just finished today so am still in detective speak!

And to the ring... I made this one all for my little self! It's a taster of others to come on the site, and a funky reminder of my hols. As you know, FunkyJunk makes only one of each item so if you see something you like on the site, then snap it up! Oh, and there's 10% OFF everything on the site until this Sunday at midnight... Looking through some of my FJJ photos the other day, I thought it would be nice to share with you the products I have made as gifts for friends...

Does anyone else who creates find that line between giving gifts you've made and marketing/advertising a tricky one to tread? If I make something for a gift for a friend it's only ever because I want to give them a gift. Like 'saw this and thought of you'. I think if the situation were reversed I'd love to receive crafty gifts from my friends. I don't think I'd feel marketed to and I would proudly say 'my friend made this'. ( I don't look for my friends to carry business cards and produce one when they are asked about the item!) I also think it would be a bit rubbish being friends with someone who makes jewellery and never getting any freebies!! Hahaha!

Hey peeps!! Here's the latest news from FJJ headquarters!! I'm very excited because my brand new pink packaging arrived in the post FINALLY! (I think there is a certain irony in ordering postal stuff through the post but we won't dwell on that!) I won't post pics so it doesn't spoil the surprise pink packages on their way to our FunkyJunk Testers!!

FunkyJunk Testers, you say? Tell us more! Well, I have a few testers who receive free products every 2-3 months and they get to keep them in exchange for a little bit of feedback about the wearibility/durability/style/colours of the item. I test everything I make myself anyway - who wants jewellery that falls apart a la some high street shops offerings - but very much appreciate these people's opinions and thoughts. At the moment, I have a bit of a waiting list for people wanting to be testers but will blog here if I am taking on any more in the future...

I'e been BLOGGED ABOUT! The wonderful 'I am.....' Boutique owner, Aimee, blogs most days about what she's wearing (as well as mucho cute puppy pics from time to time!) and I have to say I actually have it on my RSS feed as I look forward to reading it so much! I was delighted today to see that Aimee's wearing her new FJJ Angel Wing earrings that she ordered as a bespoke item from me... They look great with the outfit Aimee chose to wear today. I am going through a similar nutical phase so I have extra appreciation for her posts! Thanks, Aimee!! Here's a link to 'I am...' What a lovely surprise!!

Wow, what a lovely surprise I had today!

I normally get lots of bits and bobs in the post but mostly jewellery bits and supplies that I have bought myself and I know are coming (thought this is still tres exciting!!). I was so pleased, then, today to receive a complete surprise in the post!

My lovely friend Paula had bought these for me as she knows I am Hello Kitty OBSESSED! When I saw her last week, she said she had something for me but never mentioned it again and, to be honest, it went out of my head as I was busy! So when this package arrived through the door I had no IDEA what it was!

They're for my hollybobs, which I am excited about, so I thought I better try them on immediately... and haven't taken them off since! Aww, what a lovely surprise! And just as another friend Abi will hopefully be receiving a surprise in the post (of roller bling and accessories) from me for her going down to Roll Britannia in Earls Court in that London, don'cha know! Ah, karma, it's a wonderful thing!! Teehee!!

Blinged up nautical bag!

Happy weekend, folks! Thought I would just share a little project I was working on to keep my nautical obsession in check (or in stripes, hahaha!)! I found this bag in a charity shop and took it home and gave it a wash to freshen it.

It's plain on one side and has almost Union Jack-style thread pattern on the other side. Ginger Spice I ain't, so thought I would bling it up a little by making a brooch for it.

I got the cameo piece from a vintage fair a few weeks ago and have been so excited to use it. I don't normally wear gold but the kitsch value of gold and silver-plated kiltpin is exactly the tone I wanted for this bag! I also redesigned a little plastic anchor button into a charm and popped it on too to complement the theme.

It's perfect for summer holidays and keeping your ice-lolly money in! What more could you ask for? I'd love to hear your comments, as ever!!

Tea: it's the new champagne, daaaahlings!!

Tea: it's the new champagne, daaaahlings!! FJJ has been a lifelong lover of tea - I was practically raised on the stuff! I also have a love of strange-flavoured sweets like Parma Violets, Violet Cremes and Oddfellows so was intrigued to find a kitsch tin of Black Rose Tea in my local Chinese supermarket. It's yummy! It is quite sweet but I love that it's black tea because I can add milk... perfect!

Inspired by this and High Teas, creamcakes and beautiful things, FJJ has created Rose Tea. Rose Tea is a collection of gorgeous ceramic teacups and teapot necklaces with silver-plated chains. Here are a few sneaky images...

Lone Piper!!

So, my lovely blog followers, what would surprise you? For me to blog about something unrelated to jewellery? Okay - here goes!! I play the bagpipes and played at a friend's wedding in December last year. It was such a beautiful day! I didn't want to invade their privacy by posting any photos of them, so thought I would share this one the official photographer took of moi! It's such a great angle he chose and I had to stand there for ages - PLAYING! - while he got just the right one...

Anyway, just wanted to share something else from my life. I suppose in that way it IS related to jewellery since it's another of my passions! Wow, I managed to talk about jewellery! Collages and charms!

Google Picasa is a great program! No, I don't work for Google before you ask! It's just that a few months ago I discovered the art of collage. Not glue and bits of paper but virtual collages! I've put a few below so you can see what I'm harping on about!

I'm sure there may be other programs that allow you to do this but I like this one and I know it now! ( Maybe I am getting resistant to change in my old 28 years!!) I love the polaroid effect ones but they slightly snip the photos so you have to not crop them untl you are creating the collage if you want the whole image. I quite like the style of the overlapped plain photos too. I'd love to hear any comments you have!

Awesome new dress to customise - Part 1!!

Wow - how now is this dress? It's 80s vintage and I picked it up at the Meadows Festival in Edinburgh a few weeks ago.

It's not on a mannequin, obviously(!), so you can't see very well that it is slashneck and the sleeves are slightly batwing. The skirt part is a-line. It's made of t-shirt style cotton and will be lovely and cool in the summer - all four days of it that we get in Scotland anyway!

It's got such a great pattern - the sea and palm trees and little boats and ships in the background. And it's a one-off, which you probably know by now I am a huge fan of!!

It's too long for the way I want to wear it so I'm going to have a bash on my trusty old sewing machine and see how she turns out. I'm thinking of bringing it up to just before the top of the first segment of turquoise so it sits just above knee - not too short. I'll post more pics as I go along. As if I'm not super-busy enough at the moment! :) It's a labour of love, though!! ♥

Thanks to The Way of the Ninja for helping me decide that yes, I can sew a simple straight line therefore should attempt this project! And congratulations on completing your cycle from St Andrews to Edinburgh: an amazing feat. (And you were so good to only have a wee glass of wine the night before. That's hardcore dedication!!)

Oh, and before I go... did I mention the cute rope belt? And how much I LOVE nautical, erm, everything? :D Are you sure I didn't?! ;) Leggings, or maybe daring to bare peelywally legs, ahoy mateys!!

Interview with FJJ - sort of!!

Okay, so I'm breaking the rules a little. This is my first one of these so I'm not going to tag anyone and post it simply as a blog! Read it as me interviewing me (FJJ interviewing FJJ?!) but not talking out loud as I don't do that at all. Nope, never. Not me. Not on the days I work at home or ever!! :D Okay, here goes:

What is your current obsession?
Hmmm, jewellery? Though that's been for a while now! Probably kitsch charms - I'm going through a phase! About time for me to go back into a polymer clay phase though - bring it on!!

What is your greatest achievement?
Since my blog is as FJJ and not as me, Lindsay, then I would have to say the first time I received an order from a complete random - someone I didn't know and could not connect to anyone I know e.g. that friend of a friend! Random was my goal so now aiming for another one to keep me going! I have to keep my eyes to the sky!

Coffee or Tea?
BOTH! Coffee in the morning, tea during the day. I was brought up on tea!

What’s for dinner?
I made HUGE ciabattas at lunchtime - to my Mum's recipe (sort of!) - and am still a bit stuffed so it will be something light a little later on. Scrambled eggs and toast maybe? Friends round for tea tomorrow night so that will be more impressive!

What have you just made?
Since you ask, this sailor girl necklace! I am keeping it for myself as I bought in the sailor girl charm from the USA, rather than make it from clay myself, and reworked it into this necklace. Plus, I heart it! And I made about 15 other pieces for the site today so I deserve it. Okay? No arguments! :D

What are you listening to right now?
The sound of my lovely man's pc buzzing away in the background!

What is your favorite ice cream flavour?
Not the biggest ice cream fan but cookie dough flavour rocks!

Probably to see my folks as I miss them! And my sis! But I get to see them this weekend so it's all good!

Describe your personal style?
I've been told it's quite Hoxton/Glasgow but I'm not sure! At the moment, I like high waisted skirts and trousers with nice tucked in tees, coloured tights (if a skirt!) and killer accessories! And I normally wear flats. I also have a thing about belts at the moment. And my nautical-style Ted Baker blazer with bow at the back - lush!

What are you going to do after this?
List some more products on the website! I'm not marketing, it's true!!

What inspires you?
Currently: the 80s; roller-derby; the 50s; Japan; kitsch; anchors (as ever!); flowers, the weather, bows and sailor-style tattoos!

Do you collect something?
I'm obsessed with Hello Kitty and nearly knocked her over when I met her in Japan - I hugged her that much!! :D Yes, I am 28, not 12!

What the best piece of advice you have been given?
Mums are always right. And grow old but never grow up! I live by both every day!

More secrets!! Ooohhh! Giving away my secrets - Part 1!!

I have clearly gone mad in the sun - I'm sharing a tiny bit of my clay secret technique! Last week I was doing a jewellery demo and I decided there's a fine line between sharing all your secrets and giving people enough just to whet their appetite. They were girls aged 14 - 18 so I had to try and judge what they might be interested in. It took a few weeks to think of ideas and source the various bits and bobs I needed but it was well worth it!

Charms sourced from Hong Kong, brand new chain I made into blank charm bracelets, new lobster clasps, a few hand-selected (and teeth-grittingly given!!) bits from my personal collection and 40 earwires later, I was ready! It went really well - it was my first ever - and I'd definitely do it again. Some of the girls could be fierce competition for the future - eek!!

Seriously, though, it was great fun and it was lovely to meet the girls. If they've been inspired to make their own stuff, they will be able to find out more about the techniques involved and I gave them some good tips on where and how to find out more. It was important, I thought, not to overload them with jargon and make it as accessible as possible! I'd love to hear comments from anyone else who has done a similar crafty workshop for others and what they found worked!

I also handmade some clay charms before I went along and they included these candy swirl slices. These photos show stages 3, 4 and 5 of the process and after this they were chopped into slices and baked, then drilled.

Right, better go before I go completely mad and give you more secrets! :D

Well, I've been thinking. A lot. About Hello Kitty and jewellery mainly, as ever!!

Two things sprang to mind - the urge to set up a Folksy shop called FunkyJunkJewellery Outlet and the need to have this car, now!! It is from Sanrio Puroland (Hello Kitty Land!) in Japan (where I went in 2006). It was heaven! My friend and I took turns to sit in HK's car and I found this picture the other day and wanted to share!!

Hey bloggers and blogetters!! Hope all is well with everyone. It's a cloudy-but-weirdly-sunny day here in Edinburgh and I've decided to stay in and do some 'jewellerising', as my lovely bloke says!! :)

I was just clearing up my workspace to do some laptopping, and had to look twice at the way I had set down my various pliers and tools... oh dear! Please have a look at the photo and confirm if you think it is organisation or OCD!! I have come to learn that there is a very fine line between genius and insanity, and now between organisation skills and WHOAH!!

Also, I have discovered that I am so rock 'n' roll that even my toast says AARRRRR! I got my bloke a piratey toaster for Chrimbo and we've been rocking the high seas with toast ever since!

Whoo... thought I would share a picture of some clay bits I have made over the last year or so. There's loads more but these ones sit in a pretty jar on my workingfromhome desk to keep me cheery! Might have to drill them though and work them into some summery pieces! Does anyone else use clay? I use Fimo. I tried sculpey studio recently but found it quite sticky to be honest. Non-crafting people's reactions when I say I use fimo are so funny - they associate it with making bits when they were kids and can't see how it can make jewellery...

High heels and watches...

Hey peeps!! I was at my friend's Hen do on Saturday night and I had come up with an outfit I was happy with but decided to treat myself and make some new jewels just for the occasion!

I was wearing a grey tulip skirt with a nurse-style cinch belt under the bust, and a black top (tucked in, natch!). Purple tights were the order of the day, so I started there with inspiration for my pieces...

New charms arrived via mr postie that morning, so I was beside myself with my new plastic goodies! I decided I needed little purple heel earrings and a brand new charm bracelet. I had bought the watch (real and working) piece a couple of weeks before and needed to test it out on a piece before I bought any more. See what I go through for my art?!?! I got lots of compliments from people about my pieces and was really chuffed!! Sometimes you just plug away at home so it's nice to get into the real world and mix with real people!!

Saturation Nation!

So... I was playing about with photo effects and really liked the saturation effect you can get. I can't really use it for showing products though so decided to photograph some of my new charms, all the way from Hong Kong.* (*charms from Hong Kong - did not go to Hong Kong and get a really long lens!! Oh dear, pedantry may make this blog tedious for readers!)

... with my new birdcage! I don't have a bird - it's purely decorational and for photographing jewellery. For ages now I have been experimenting away in the background with different photo styles and I am happppppy now!! I don't know about any other crafters photographing their work... how do you get on? I love it but have had to teach myself a lot about light and colour and just keep snapping away!

Anyway, a few pics demo-ing the birdcage - would love to hear anyone's comments!! :)
